My name is Perry I have been photographing the world around me for over 30 years.
People ask me about including photo/camera info: For me there is only 2 rules F8 for daylight, F 5.6 for hand held night shots. I very seldom ever change those rules. This is how I shoot and always have.
I usually carry 3 different cameras ready to go, because changing lenses is slow and allows to much chance to get dirt inside the camera.
I shoot Canon camera systems, one with a 170-500 lens,one with a 75-300 and one with 18-55 lens.
To me anything else is unimportant, and that is why I do not add the info. I was taught to shoot as the average human eye sees and this is approximately F8 at 100 mm at most distances, since we see less at night I step down the aperture to 5.6 I do not stick to the 100 mm guide as much as the aperture rule.
These are my rules because I compare in my mind what is in focus and what is not when I look at a subject, without shifting your eyes point of focus. judge this for yourself.
I learned to shoot back in the days long before digital, instant gratification and the delete button. I made notes all the time, experimented and kept track, because it took so long before you would actually see the negatives and/or positives, let alone the prints. Cost was crazy and time was the essence, so you better be sure of your gear and know without being able to look at the back of the camera that you got the shot.
This new wave of digital photographers, does not always impress me, I don't do a lot of computer modification on my pictures, I hate the air brushing trend that alters the reality of a photograph. When you start doing all this kind of manipulation to a photo you are not a photographer you are a graphic artist. The result is no longer a photograph that you shot, but something you created from a photograph, more often than not, this is done to cover up for not so technically good photos. I personally try not to over use the computer modifications I could do, simply because I like the way my photos come out. I only delete about 5% of the photos I shoot, but I have been told I am fussy.
I also see no point in talking about the megapixels of a camera, this to me is about the same as bragging because I can afford better gear than somebody else, or they can afford more than me. Taking good pictures with what you have is all that is important.
I also usually post a small percentage of what I shoot, simply to keep the volume down on my site.
